At that point, you can try charging the phone again, either with the wireless or traditional charger. You can wait for any excess liquid to dry up. If that’s true, you will probably need to let the device sit for a while before you try charging it, either with the wireless charger or the standard version. However, if you get that liquid detected in connector message on your screen, that could mean the entire device is wet, and not just the port. If you have a wireless charger that’s approved for Apple devices, you can set the phone on it, and it should charge with no cable required. In other words, you might be thinking about bypassing the lightning connector.Īs it turns out, you can do that. Can You Charge the iPhone Without Using the Lightning Connector?Īt this point, perhaps you’re wondering about whether you can charge the iPhone without using the lightning accessory that comes with a cable. This indicates the phone is restarting on its own, which could indicate a software problem. You might also get one of those messages and then see that the Apple logo appears on the screen. There’s been liquid detected, and you need to dry your lightning connector before the iPhone will charge, at least if you use the iPhone’s lightning port. If there’s liquid detected by your iPhone, it will probably show you one of two messages on your screen. If that happens and then you try to charge it, you will get a liquid detection alert. Perhaps you drop it in a puddle or a swimming pool. Maybe it’s subjected to excess liquid because you’re trying to use it when you’re out in a rainstorm. However, it’s always possible that you’re out in the world somewhere, and your iPhone gets wet. ![]() Ideally, your phone will start to charge every time you plug it into power. What Happens if Liquid Gets in Your Lightning Port? If you see that, you know that your iPhone is charging the way that it should be. You should see an icon on the screen that shows a battery with a lightning bolt inside it. You can see that it’s working correctly by looking at the screen. ![]() When you do so, the phone should start to charge. You plug the lightning cable into the lightning connector. The lightning cable is the male piece, and is external, meaning that it is not a part of your iPhone. There’s an accessory called a lightning cable that plugs into your iPhone’s lightning connector. In other words, you’ll have a charging port on another kind of smartphone, such as an Android device, but you would not technically call it a lightning connector or a lightning port. The terms “lightning connector” and “lightning port” are unique to Apple products. When you’re talking about an iPhone, you have a charging port that is also referred to as either a lightning connector or a lightning port. That charges the phone, or it should, if everything is working correctly. This is where you plug in the charging cable that you connect to power. What is a Lightning Connector?Įvery smartphone has a charging port. We will discuss how you can dry your lightning connector in the following article. ![]() ![]() Recommendation to Site Ownersįor sites choosing to let users protect their accounts with two-step verification via TOTP I recommend sticking to the HMAC-SHA-1 algorithm, 6 digits and a period of 30 seconds, at least as a default value, since this is currently the only mode all tested apps support. Even better would be to add support for all three SHA hash algorithms mentioned in the TOTP RFC (HMAC-SHA-1, HMAC-SHA-256 and HMAC-SHA-512), 6 and 8 digit tokens plus 30 and 60 second periods. I recommend authenticator app developers to validate the data from the QR code, check if the app supports the mode encoded in it and give the user a descriptive error message if it detects a setting which the app does not support. Sites providing TOTP as a two-step verification method usually require the user to provide one token to prove that it has saved the TOTP parameters, the device has correct time and so on so there is no risk that these shortcomings would lock out users from their accounts, but there is a risk that a user would skip two-step verification if the setup process fails. Instead they assume the standard settings and generate tokens based on that, giving wrong tokens, no error messages and a bad user experience. My investigations show that many common mobile authenticator apps accept QR codes for hash algorithms, periods and number of digits they don’t support. Varying the number of digits is not mentioned in the TOTP standard apart from in the Java reference implementation, but it’s mentioned as an extension in the underlying HMAC-Based One-Time Password Algorithm (HOTP) standard ( RFC 4226) in Appendix E.1:Ī simple enhancement in terms of security would be to extract more digits from the HMAC-SHA-1 value.įor instance, calculating the HOTP value modulo 10^8 to build an 8-digit HOTP value would reduce the probability of success of the adversary from sv/10^6 to sv/10^8. The digits parameter may have the values 6 or 8, and determines how long of a one-time passcode to display to the user. The HMAC-SHA-1 hash function is the default but HMAC-SHA-256 and HMAC-SHA-512 are also allowed. The QR code encodes text on the so called Key URI format as per a Google Authenticator wiki article: TOTP standard recommends a default time-step size of 30 seconds. The de-facto standard is to transfer TOTP parameters including the secret (key) using a QR code.
![]() ![]() These houses form a belt around the Earth. What Is the Zodiac? The zodiac is “an area of the sky through which the sun, moon, and most of the planets appear to move, divided into twelve equal parts, each with a name and symbol, and each connected with an exact time of year.” 5 These twelve equal parts are called “houses.” Each house is named after a visible constellation (the sign) in that patch of sky. 4 While horoscopes are a subset of astrology, there’s another concept needed to connect the two. More specifically, astrology is the “study of the movements and positions of the sun, moon, planets, and stars in the belief that they affect the character and lives of people” (emphasis added). But astrology takes the science of the stars and mixes it with an occult belief that those star patterns affect people and events on Earth. What Is Astrology? Astrology is a mystical theory sometimes mistaken for the science of star-gazing known as astronomy. So, if that 70 million number is correct, then a lot of people are casual astrologers. That mundane reality hasn’t stopped the 70 million or so Americans who, reportedly, read their horoscope every day. What Are Horoscopes? A horoscope is a “description of what is going to happen to you, based on the position of the stars and planets at the time of your birth.” 2 Scientifically speaking, stars in the heavens on your birthday don’t do that - they don’t determine “what is going to happen to you.” They can’t predict anything. You can filter out the confused mystics, deluded occultists, superstitious dabblers, and the secular swingers all in one clean stroke. In which case, answering “The Cross” might be the best answer you can give. Of course, some people are just using a dippy little pick-up line to make conversation. 1 In the process, they are not only flirting with occult superstition, they’re assuming you do too. Seeking to find out if you’re an Aries, Taurus, or Capricorn, they’re harkening back to a long dark history of trying to extract secret knowledge and power from patterns in the stars. People may not realize it, but when they ask for your astrological sign, they’re probing into occultism. But that answer will likely draw strange looks. ![]() ![]() The next time someone says, “What’s your sign?” tell them, “The Cross.” The cross of Christ has far more meaning, importance, and truth than can be found in any astrological sign. ![]() ![]() ![]() In order to save money while learning and building the business, Ralph elected to move back into to his parents ’ home. Not knowing whether the business would take hold, the Rubios started out frugally. Previously a hamburger grill, it was little more than a stand, but it would do. The family, using Ray Rubio ’s initial investment of $30,000, bought the building at a “distressed ” sale for $16,000. Thus Rubio ’s had an un-assuming but fairly risky start for a restaurant chain that by 1999 had sold more than 35 million fish tacos. He had starting working as a waiter in 1978, largely to have daytime hours free for the beach, but it was only after making his deal with his father that he got some managerial experience as an assistant manager at the Pier Company restaurant in Seaport Village. ” Before opening that first Rubio ’s, Ralph Rubio had only limited experience in managing a restaurant. With the financial backing and business acumen of his father and the help of his brother Robert, Ralph Rubio bought a small building in the Mission Bay section of San Diego and, in January of 1983, began making and selling his unique tacos under a sign reading “Rubio ’s. He had gotten the recipe at a taco shop in San Felipe, a fishing village in Baja California, where, in the mid-1970s, he and other student friends from San Diego State University used to take their spring break. ” It was 1982, and although Ralph had no business experience of note, he did have a good recipe for making what became the chain ’s signature menu item -its fish taco. 1982-87: Creating a Market for Rubio ’s Signature Fish TacoĪccording to Ralph Rubio ’s own account, Rubio ’s Baja Grill resulted from a challenge made by his father Ray (Rafael) “to get off his surfboard and make something of his life. However, without the restaurants ’special atmosphere, Rubio ’s dishes are also sold at other outlets in and near San Diego, including the Del Mar Racetrack and QUALCOMM Stadium. There are aquariums, patio tables shaded by thatched-palm palapa umbrellas, even decorative surfboards. Also, although there is a take-out service, the grills have a casual, Baja-inspired atmosphere which encourages in-house dining. ![]() Although Rubio ’s provides fast-food service, each chain unit prepares much of its food on a daily basis, ensuring, for example, fresh salsa, guacamole, sauces, beans, rice, and chips. Whether she’s a playful mischief-maker, a serene lap cat, or a little diva with tons of attitude, the name you choose should resonate with her unique personality. These cats are often praised for their vibrant personalities, fondly dubbed as “tortitude”. If you see a mixture of darker colors-this is a tortie. Once you have this concept in mind, it will be easy to tell the difference from now on.Before you dive into naming directories or brainstorming with friends, take a moment to observe your tortie. That’s right- if you spot white patches, you’re dealing with a calico. But in reality, the coloring and the personalities vary quite a lot, and the separation is concrete. After all, they are both a mixtape of different colors, resulting in a similar coat construction. You may think the tortie and the calico are essentially the same. Difference Between Tortoiseshell and Calico That means many different cat breeds can have calico coats like Persians, Munchkins, and Maine Coons, but no cat is exclusively called “calico” by name. A calico can produce several colors on the kitty spectrum-there are no guarantees.Ĭalico is also not a breed-it’s just a pattern. This means you could not breed a calico cat with the hope of an all-calico litter. Rather than being bred for their particular coat pattern, the calico phenomenon is a spontaneous act of nature. But they have patches of bold color that can be orange, black, tan, grey, chocolate, cream, red, or brown. The calico has an exceptionally recognizable color palette. Or they can be very relaxed, gentle, and loving. A calico can share the attitude of a tortie-bold, independent, and mischievous. When it comes to the personality you can expect, this varies more than other patterns. These cats have been the epicenter of scientific studies, trying to figure out what spontaneous genes combine to create this gorgeous feline. The beautiful calico is a tri-colored cat that always, always, always sports white in the mix. Still, today, when some spot a stray tortie, they believe great things will follow. And you may be able to strike a small fortune since male torties are considered a hot commodity-like a four-leaf clover.Īre you superstitious? In Celtic folklore, the tortoiseshell pattern is also attributed to luck. That means you couldn’t use a male tortie in hopes of breeding them. Males are incredibly rare-and always sterile.
